Basic Education is the foundation upon which higher education is built. In recent years, however, there have been complaints about the quality of teachers in terms of their teaching. To correct this deficiency in the teaching quality, the West End University College has undertaken to train highly qualified teachers in both content and pedagogy to teach in the Basic level of the educational ladder.
The goal of the B.Ed (Basic Education) programme is to produce broad-based and competent teachers who would be able to function in several sectors of today’s Basic Education system.
The objective is to offer a four-year Bachelor of Education (Basic Education) degree programme that will prepare high caliber graduate professionals who will serve the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service in the following capacity:
Administrators and supervisors in basic education;
Head teachers of basic schools;
Organizers of in-service training for basic school teachers;
Developers of curriculum materials in basic schools, and
Initiators of programmes to improve the quality of basic education.
