BEd. Early Childhood

Rationale

With the introduction of the early childhood education as part the Basic Education duringthe 2007 education reforms in Ghana, the West End University College is introducing adegree course tailored to prepare qualified teachers for the early childhood education centres.  This measure is to fill the teaching gap in the early childhood centres which to a very large extent, are occupied by untrained teachers.

In recent times, there has been an increasing desire from teachers and un-trained teachers to upgrade themselves to diploma and degree levels.  In response to this, seven Colleges of Education have been tasked to train teachers for early childhood at diploma levels.  Again, the University of Education,  Winneba and the University of Cape Coast also run a programme in Early Childhood Education for teachers at the Diploma and degree levels.    There is the challenge of upgrading programmes to meet these ever increasing desires of teachers for higher education.  It is against this background that the West End University College has decided to introduce the B.Ed in early childhood education to satisfy the professional and academic preparation of teachers for the early childhood education.  The B.Ed in Early Childhood Education will ensure that more competent and qualified teachers are trained through the sandwich mode.
